If felt fine. Sat, 25 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Fri, Oct 24, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-24-2008.html
Today was another big workout, our second this week. We did 6x1mile at race pace (race effort) on Foothills Park (a very hilly and grassy field) with 3 mins recovery. My splits were as follows: 5:06, 5:04, 4:59, 4:58, 4:58, 4:57. I was very happy with this, mainly since this course is very slow, at least 15-20 seconds per mile slower than a flat, harder surfaced course. I am starting to feel really good. This last week may have been the best week of training of my whole life. Throughout this season, I have had some bumps and ups and downs with training consistency and training level, but this week was great! These next few races are the real important ones, so I feel like I am starting to roll at the right time.
Fri, 24 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Thu, Oct 23, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-23-2008.html I ran really easy today, and since it was oyo (on your own), I didn't wear a watch. I cruised the whole way, but felt heavy like yesterday. I better be prepared for tommorrow...we have hilly mile repeats. That's going to be hard. Thu, 23 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Wed, Oct 22, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-22-2008.html Today was a middle distance run in South Boulder along Community Ditch. I felt heavy, but loosened up after a while. Wed, 22 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Tue, Oct 21, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-21-2008.html Today was a huge workout. We ran 16x400 with 200 rest at 65 pace!!! It was definitely tough, but I ended up surprising myself. I was comfortable for a good portion of the workout, and only the last four or five started to really hurt. We hit either 65 or under for all of the repeats (63 was my fastest), which is nice and rollin' if you ask me! Tue, 21 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Mon, Oct 20, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-20-2008.html Today was an easy run in south Boulder. I ran pretty easy since I am a bit sore. I feel really heavy today (I guess a race followed by a long run will do that to you!) Mon, 20 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sun, Oct 19, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-19-2008.html Today was a long run at The Grange. I felt heavy and a little sore, but overall, the run was good. Perfect weather! Sun, 19 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sat, Oct 18, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-18-2008.html Alright, today was the PreNats 8k in Terra Haute. Coach decided to throw me into the open race, so he could pull me out in case I should have an issue similar to the last few races. Everything went good, though. The first kilometer went out ridulously fast, and I just sat back. I was in 80th at best and went through in 2:47. Seeing this, I just backed off for the next kilometer and played things smart. I knew there would be some serious dying the last 3k after such a suicidal first mile or two. Between 2k and 5k, I began passing people that were already dying (ouch that's going to be a painful last three miles!) At 5k, I was still a ways back, but sped up a bit and began to really pass some people. I was honestly passing groups of six or seven at a time. I just cruised until the finish, and outkicked a Stanford runner at the end. Over the final 2k I ran completely alone, with the exception of one runner trying to hold on for dear life just behind me. When I began kicking, I felt ... Sat, 18 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Fri, Oct 17, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-17-2008.html Today was an easy shakeout on the course. My legs still feel a bit heavy. Fri, 17 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Thu, Oct 16, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-16-2008.html Today was an easy run to rest up a bit for this weekend. My legs feel really heavy. Thu, 16 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Wed, Oct 15, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-15-2008.html
I ran thirteen miles this morning in South Boulder. Tommorrow we leave for Terra Haute, Indiana for Pre-Nats. It should be a good race! I am excited!
Wed, 15 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Tue, Oct 14, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-14-2008.html Today we did 12x300 meters at optimistic 8k race pace this weekend. The workout was pretty easy since we had 200 meters of rest between intervals. I ran three miles for warm up and four miles for cool down. Tue, 14 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Mon, Oct 13, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-13-2008.html Today was an easy run up Marshall Mesa through Shanahan Ridge, then back through Fairview High School. It was nice and cool! I love the fall weather! Mon, 13 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sun, Oct 12, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-12-2008.html Today was a long run with the team in south Boulder along the Bobolink Trail. It was really cold today, even misting a bit. When I got moving, it felt perfect for runnin'! I started slow, but finished at fair pace. It felt great! Sun, 12 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sat, Oct 11, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-11-2008.html
Nine easy miles in south Boulder today. Nothing especially special to report.
Sat, 11 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Fri, Oct 10, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-10-2008.html Alright, this morning was a great workout. We had to be "spiked and psyched" by 6:30 am (including warm-up), so it was an early morning. After warming up, we did 8x1k repeats at 3:00 per interval. This was not too fast, but the lack of rest between intervals (1:30) made the workout a bit more difficult. I found a good window, and hit pace on almost every one (2:58 was my fastest, 3:01 was my slowest). The end had some hurt, but nothing too excessive. The pacing did not feel too fast, but the lack of rest made the workout tough. I felt really good though, so I am optimistic about the next few workouts & races! Fri, 10 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Thu, Oct 09, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-09-2008.html Alright, I had an EKG and Ultrasound of my heart this morning, and everything looked great!!! They said that my heart looked completely normal and very fit! This makes me soooo happy! During the ultrasound, it was really cool to see my heart beating on a screen while feeling it in my chest at the same time. Weird! They could even take sound clips to hear the blood flow! Well, thats a huge relief. I ran 10 miles in the afternoon and did some strides. I felt really good. Tommorrow is a workout. Thu, 09 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Tue, Oct 07, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-07-2008.html Sooo, today the sports trainers wanted to do a few tests on my heart (EKG, ultrasound etc...) to make sure that this is not what was causing my dizziness and fatigue over the last few weeks. They scheduled a few tests for Thursday, and said I can't run until then. It's only two days, plus I need to get out of this hole. Rest could do me well right now. I'll hope for the best! Tue, 07 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Mon, Oct 06, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-06-2008.html Today was an easy run at Bobolink with my old coach. Nothing too special to report. Mon, 06 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sun, Oct 05, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-05-2008.html Today was a "long" run at Switzerland trail. Coach told us to go 80 mins. easy (however far that may be). I ran really easy since I was sore from yesterday. This wasn't quite as long as most of my Sunday runs, but it was good nonetheless. Sun, 05 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sat, Oct 04, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-04-2008.html Today was the Rocky Mountain Shootout. This was not a great race for me, but in the overall scheme, was not too bad. I went out fairly slow, and felt great for the first three miles. At mile 3.5ish, however, I hit a massive wall. From there on, I was just hanging on. I really did not feel like I went out too fast, but after looking at mile splits, I may have. It is unfortunate to be "just hanging on" and not racing for the last two miles, but I thats a risk I took by getting out well. I feel like I still have a bit of cumulative fatigue from Iowa, too, so I am sure that contributed to not feeling zippy today. I still ran substancially faster than last year (when I had a great race) and scored for our team (first time!) but I know I could have run much better. Next up: Pre-Nats!!! I think that I can rest up and have a really good race there! Sat, 04 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Fri, Oct 03, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-03-2008.html Today was a shakeout on the Buff Ranch. I felt fine, and am excited to race tommorrow! Fri, 03 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Wed, Oct 01, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-10-01-2008.html
Today was a middle distance run in South Boulder. I felt decent, a bit tired, but fine overall. We have the Shootout this weekend, so I will rest up tommorrow...no running!
Wed, 01 Oct 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Tue, Sep 30, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-30-2008.html
Today may just have been one of my best workouts ever! I was assigned the big boy group again :), consisting of 5x1500 meters in 4:27 (4:44ish mile pace), with 500 meters of rest (usually 2:00 mins). We did the workout on the football practice fields at 6:30 am, so it was nice and cool - no worrying about heat! The first one hurt, mainly since it was a "shock" to hit that pace for a sustained time, but after this, I just got in a groove and cruised. The fastest I hit was 4:26, while the slowest I hit was 4:29. As far as "hurt" is concerned, it felt the exact same as our last 1500 workout (where I did 4:34's to 4:35's on average), so I am making some improvements! Most importantly, I am pleased to be feeling well after last week. This weekend we have a race, so I am going to rest up for the next three days. Feelin' good!
Tue, 30 Sep 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Mon, Sep 29, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-29-2008.html
I ran with my old coach today at Bobolink. My pacing was really easy. Tommorrow is a beast workout, so I need to be rested up!
Mon, 29 Sep 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sun, Sep 28, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-28-2008.html Today was sixteen miles at Draconia. I started out fairly slow (6:45's), then just cruised until the finish. I was very surprised at how good I felt today. It must have been the ice cream last night! No joke, that stuff seems to really help me run well! Sun, 28 Sep 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Sat, Sep 27, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-27-2008.html Today was a really easy run in the morning around Marshall Mesa. Relaxing! Sat, 27 Sep 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Fri, Sep 26, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-26-2008.html Today was a workout at 6:30 am, but coach (being in a gracious mood) didn't give us one of the usual Friday doses of pain. We did 14x500 meter repeats in 1:32. They felt really easy, almost too slow. Mainly, I am happy to see that my body is feeling good after last weeks endeavor. Tommorrow will be easy. Fri, 26 Sep 2008 04:00:00 +0100 Thu, Sep 25, 2008 http://Nick.fastrunningblog.com/blog-09-25-2008.html Today was an easy day on Kitt Field. It was hot, so I just did laps (so I didn't have to venture out too far in case I needed to stop). I felt good, though. Thu, 25 Sep 2008 04:00:00 +0100
